Medical – Active employees (regular full-time and regular part-time) may choose one of these options:
Hospital Surgical Medical (HSM) – Nationwide medical coverage with a retail and mail order prescription program, a health reimbursement account, access and 100% coverage at world-renowned specialty Centers of Excellence and health and wellness resources.
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) – Regionally based health care coverage that utilizes a designated network of providers with prescription drug coverage.
Vision – Access to a network of eye care professionals with benefits that include an annual eye exam and a contact lens or eyeglass allowance, plus reduced prices for Lasik surgery and other services.
Flexible Spending Account – IRS approved savings account that allows pre-tax payroll deductions to fund an account used for out-of-pocket health care expenses not covered by insurance and for child and adult dependent care.
Protection Coverage
Shell offers programs to protect you and your family from the unexpected. You have access to company-paid coverage, plus the flexibility to choose optional insurance coverage to meet your specific needs.
Disability – Offers protection if you are unable to work due to illness or injury. Coverage includes company-paid non-occupational disability and occupational disability as well as employee-paid income protection insurance and long-term disability.
Survivor Income – Company-paid life insurance at twice your base pay with the option of additional employee-paid coverage at discounted rates including spouse and child coverage. Employees also are covered by company-paid occupational accident and business travel insurance. Supplemental employee-paid personal accident insurance is also available. Shell also offers optional protection plans, including:

Wealth
Shell offers the opportunity for you to build future financial security. Through a combination of plans and special features, you have the flexibility to actively manage your savings and retirement benefits. We offer a contemporary and highly competitive wealth and retirement benefit package that includes a pension and savings plan with generous employer contributions.
Shell Pension Plan – Employee pensions are 100% vested after three years of service. You can choose how your pension benefit is calculated. The portable pension option lets you accumulate a percentage each year based on age, accredited service and compensation. The more traditional pension offers a lifetime monthly annuity based on pay and years of service.
Savings Plan – Make pre-tax and post-tax contributions from your pay and direct how to invest your account. We contribute a percentage of your compensation based on years of service, regardless of your personal contribution. You may begin contributions your first day of employment and you are always 100% vested.
Employee Share Purchase Plan – Buy ordinary shares of Company stock at a discount through after-tax payroll deductions, up to an annually determined maximum.

We offer competitive levels of annual leave entitlements and maternity/paternity leave allowances. We also accommodate career breaks and sabbaticals wherever feasibly possible. In addition, employees are encouraged to step outside of purely work boundaries to participate in other areas of interest such as social responsibility projects as part of Shell Project Better World, employee interest groups or campus recruitment, which offers the chance to meet with university students.
Work and Family Programs
Employee assistance program for time management, counseling, elder and child care issues and other personal and work matters. Shell also offers financial assistance for the adoption of a child. In addition, we sponsor many employee organizations that reflect the diversity of our people's interests.

Listening to our employees
We regularly conduct surveys amongst our employees to find out if there are any issues that need to be addressed or improved. This can take the form of online surveys, discussion forums or interactive Webcasts. As an example, the Shell People Survey is conducted online on a regular, global basis. This gives everyone a chance to make suggestions on improving our work environment, to input into policies or to address areas of concern.
